Let's Eat!

We’re having a party - and you’re invited!

 

Let’s Eat will be our third annual community dinner celebrating school gardens and benefitting Hudson Valley Seed’s programs.

The evening will feature food from local chefs (including lots of veggies grown in our gardens!) and new brews from Hudson Valley Brewery and Angry Orchard. And we're very grateful for sponsorship from Stop & Shop!

An awesome silent auction will offer amazing items and experiences chosen from more than 30 of our favorite Hudson Valley businesses. (Stay tuned on Facebook for more info!)

Get your tickets now! $35 includes admission, dinner, and a drink. Bring all your friends! And consider sponsoring a ticket so that one of the parents, teachers, or farmers who make Hudson Valley Seed possible can attend.

Sprout Out! Hudson Valley Seed Gala.

For one night only Hudson Valley Seed is converting an industrial warehouse in Beacon to celebrate five years of healthy, smart Hudson Valley kids. Think runway farmer -- workshop glam -- fancy woodworker -- forklift model  -- and plan your attire and footwear accordingly. Toss the heels and accessorize your dress with sturdy footwear made for dancing. Featuring food from Stock Up, Marbled Meat, the Beacon Hotel, and others, plus a live band and live auction. Vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free friendly. Don't miss it! Tickets are now SOLD OUT for the Sprout Out Hudson Valley Seed Gala! Cottage Supper Club at Longhaul Farm

Please join us for a special fundraiser feast at The Cottage Supper Club at Longhaul Farm on Saturday, September 24, 2016 from 6-9pm. This delicious meal will be an exciting collaboration between Longhaul Farm and Hudson Valley Seed. Longhaul Farmers Jocelyn Apicello and Jason Angell will cook a five-course meal with ingredients grown on their farm. Wine will be paired with each course by a sommelier. Guests will be seated outside under the stars. Come enjoy a fabulous meal, with a portion of your donation going to Longhaul’s great work, and a portion supporting Hudson Valley Seed’s educational programs right in your backyard. 

Hudson Valley Seed is a 501(c)3 organization. $125 of each ticket is tax deductible.

Tuesday September 20th 6:30 – 9:00 pm 

The patio at Homespun Foods, 232 Main St, Beacon

The meal will be made with ingredients sourced from local farms and school gardens. 

Menu will include roasted carrot cumin puree, beet hummus, summer ratatouille with polenta, creamy corn and chive custard, Moroccan meatballs, and for dessert, biscuits and basil peach compote with ice cream.

The evening will also include a silent auction highlighting amazing local businesses and experiences.

Open Garden Times - Free!

Free Summer Fun for Kids in Your School Garden

Are you looking for a fun, healthy, and educational outdoor activity for you and your kids to do this summer? Every week you can visit eight different gardens in Beacon, Newburgh and Garrison during open garden time! Hudson Valley Seed staff and volunteers host open garden time each weekday morning and all are ages are welcome to join in planting, weeding, watering, harvesting, reading, and crafting. Each day from 9:30-11:00am there are gardening tasks and kids’ activities offered in one of the school gardens managed by Hudson Valley Seed. Participants will read books, harvest produce, and take home fresh-picked veggies and herbs! 

Open garden times and locations are as follows:

Mondays 9:30-11am at Glenham Elementary School, 20 Chase Drive, Fishkill

Tuesdays 9:30-11am at J.V. Forrestal Elementary School, 125 Liberty Street, Beacon

Wednesdays 9:30-11am at The Garrison Union Free School, 1100 NY-9D, Garrison

Thursdays 9:30-11am at South Avenue Elementary School, 60 South Avenue, Beacon

Fridays 9:30-11am at Sargent Elementary School, 29 Education Drive, Beacon

Open garden times also run in Newburgh at Horizons on Hudson Elementary School, Temple Hill Academy, the Newburgh Boys and Girls Club and the Newburgh Armory Unity Center. Please visit www.hudsonvalleyseed.org for times and locations.

On Wednesday afternoons from 3:30-5:00pm Hudson Valley Seed hosts ‘Stories-n-Snacks’ in the shade of a beautiful tree beside the South Avenue school garden. All ages are invited to come hear a garden-related story book while snacking on fresh veggies from the garden. The South Avenue garden is located at 60 South Avenue, Beacon.

These programs run from June 27- August 19.

Join Hudson Valley Seed and Beacon Bite to celebrate bringing garden time to every K-5 student in the Beacon City School District! Enjoy a locally sourced meal served family style followed by pie, popcorn, and a short outdoor film. Twenty one students from the Hudson Valley Seed program will work with Beacon Bite Chef, Josh Venne, to prepare this meal in the hours before the dinner. The menu includes salad, soup, pasta, and pie from Beacon Pie Company. The meal is vegetarian and there will be vegan options.

Tickets are $30. Seating is limited so purchase your tickets early!

Rain date is the following Tuesday, October 20th, 7pm.

Engaging Kids through Gardening.

Scenic Hudson’s Tuesday Evening Lecture Series—Local Produce

The Hudson Valley has so much to offer in the way of fresh, local food. These lectures will highlight what goes into producing it. In addition to informative talks from farmers, brewers, beekeepers and experts on creating nutrient-rich soils, representatives from Scenic Hudson will discuss our Foodshed Conservation Plan, a blueprint for ramping up farmland protection throughout the Hudson Valley.  

After offering basic tips for starting a garden with children, educators from Hudson Valley Seed will demonstrate hands-on projects for garden-based learning and inspiration. Participants will receive a seed starter kit and ideas for beginning a window box or backyard garden.
